I got a job!
...and then I got COVID.
So, yeah, I got a job, much to my surprise. It's a contract position, but the staffing agency offers benefits so I'll have health insurance after 30 days (I think? I only got a vague answer when I asked), and it's temp-to-hire so I could have a permanent job after six months. It's on-site, too, which I'm not thrilled about since it's a 45-minute commute each way; BUT after initially planning to move to Lehi (about 20 minutes north) Derek now wants to move further north, into the Salt Lake Valley, which will shorten the commute for me unless we move to the north of Salt Lake City, which is unlikely.
I have a vague hope of buying a condo with my share of what we get when we sell Mom's house -- it should be enough for a down payment, anyway, and there are programs in the state for first-time homebuyers that could help, too. So I've got a search on Zillow set up, and I've been getting a lot of small but cute apartments and townhouses in SLC. Exposed brick, hardwood floors, lots of light... we'll see.
Because, depending on what happens with the job, I may not stay in Utah. I'll have more to say about that when the time comes.
I caught COVID a week into the new job and have spent the last week recovering from it. I tested positive on Wednesday and started treatment that day, and I'm feeling much better now though my voice is still pretty rough. My poor vocal cords. They've been through so much.
This means not much writing has happened this month, especially not the 24-hour novel challenge I wanted to participate in. It's an Instagram-Twitter-based group ("group" is very loose here, it's more like "people who follow the same hashtags") that does this challenge once a year. I learned about it from one of the writers I follow on Youtube, and I was really looking forward it to until everything went skattywampus. Sigh. Maybe next year.
I am planning to do Camp Nanowrimo in July, though. Let me know your ID if you want to be buddies. I'm misslucyjane there, too.
Let's see... oh yes, speaking of Twitter, I've deleted the apps from my mobile devices. I'll be crossposting to it when I can but not reading it anymore, not as long as Musk owns it. This means I'm posting to Tumblr more yay! And I'll try to post here more often too, though you've heard me say that before ;).
